Dating Advice: What’s Your Passion in Life?

By Dan | Apr 29, 2009

What if I were to ask you a simple question:  why would a woman want to date you?

Go ahead.  Think about it for a second.  If you were a woman, would you want to date you?

It’s one thing to complain about your lack of success with the ladies; it’s another to realize where that lack of success might be coming from.  Sure, you feel like deep down, there’s a good part of you that really is a catch, but how can women know this?

One way that you can make your value more apparent is by more closely following your passions in life.  When you follow your passions, you become more intrepid, more daring, and more attractive to the opposite sex.  But what exactly does this mean, and how will it actually help with your dating life?

Go After Your Passion

For every guy, their passion is different.  One guy might be crazily passionate about surfing, while another guy may be a great video game player.  The first thing you have to realize is that it matters much less to women what you are passionate about, so long as you are passionate about it.

This means you aren’t pursuing what you think “would be” a good passion - that kind of passion won’t appeal to you enough to be lasting or come from your heart.

And what does it mean to “go after your passion” anyway?

It means you start setting some time each day to pursue something you’re really interested in.  Whether it’s assembling jigsaw puzzles or hang-gliding isn’t really the point.  What matters is that you start being honest with yourself and pursuing what makes you happy.

A Metaphor for Male-Female Courtship

I once heard a good metaphor for male-female interaction:  think of men and women as a Traveler and an Innkeeper, respectively.

The Traveler might come into town seeking that which excites him the most (his passion), and sees a really attractive Inn that he can stay at to rest his head for a while.  The Innkeeper notices the traveler on his journey and is happy to host him - at least for a while.

But it’s the Traveler’s nature to worry more about the path he’s on more than the Inn he might stay at along the way.  If the Inn becomes his main passion in life, he ends up going nowhere in his journey.  And he stops being a Traveler in the first place.

Women can smell passion and it’s a sweet scent.  They know if you’re a Traveler who places his priority on his path in life, not necessarily on the Inns along the way.

How Does This Help You With Women?

Women are attracted to status indicators in men.  While many people think that money can buy female attention, in truth it’s not the whole picture.  Women can spot both high-status men and men who are on the road to achieving a lot in life.

If your are focused and determined to reach your goals in life, so much so that you place less importance on how much a certain woman “likes” you, you will put off a relaxed vibe that women enjoy.  You’ll be more likely to make the decisions that work out so well in dating - you’ll call her less early on (after all, you’re busy pursuing your passion), you’ll try to “squeeze her in” your schedule, and you’ll act like someone worth pursuing.
